This particular vlog was captured during my test-shoot era, as I just shot whatever I could to learn how to use my Vuze XR. My goal was to shoot as much as I could, regardless of how shitty the footage was, to familiarize myself with the camera functions, vr180 composition, and the editing process. By this point, I realized a few things:
- My Vuze XR is absolute dog shit at low light
- I primarily go out at night, thus most of my vlog footage was gonna be shit unless I either brought a light or shot where there was ample lighting
- And even when I think there’s ample lighting, it’s never enough. The Vuze XR is light-starved like scientists in Antartica during the winter months
Still though, my editing got better. I also wanted to experiment with baking-in captions because DeoVR didn’t support subtitles and YouTube VR is focal-depth locked for captions, which can create a weird experience if the captions were on top of something that was technically closer-to-camera.
I learned that for captions to work in VR, they need to be close to the face of the speaker.
Looking down to read and then back up at the speaker is not an ideal watching experience and all that neck cranking can get you dizzy. Even if you got VR-legs! But man was I sad to find out how shitty my camera was at low light. Like… I’m supposed to do vlogs in the daylight? Like a tourist? Ew. And so we persist…
