Vlog: A VR user’s worst nightmare

“Failure is always an option.” – Adam Savage

For the past few weeks, my G2 would be glitching out. Often times it was the tracking that would flip the world view on its side, and I could just re-do the play-space boundaries and that would fix it. But recently my panels would shut off, and when they would turn back on, the panels would flicker. This was a different flicker from the “volume issue” or any software-related issues. This was serious. I spoke to HP customer service, and they basically said that 1: they don’t do G2 repairs, and 2: even if they did, the cost of shipping and repair wouldn’t be worth it, and you might as well just buy a new one since they’re now half of their original price.

But before I could even think about dropping more money on a new pcvr headset, I wanted to give it one last go; open my g2 up and try cleaning & tightening everything myself.

Since posting this video, I got feedback from the /hpreverb subreddit and the concensus is that it’s the cable itself that probably shit the bed. But with the cable being known to be of questionable quality out the factory and that it’s practically half the price of the G2 itself, it was a no-go for me. Luckily I got a Quest 2 to fall back on which I now use as my main. Still, my first fond memories of VR were made with my G2, and because of that, I hold the G2 in a special place. RIP dear friend.
